"[The Mexico: Health and Safety Travel Guide] should reassure the hesitant and educate the rest..."

-San Francisco Chronicle

xifaxn,

Medical tourism in Mexico has seen a significant rise in popularity, due to a number of key factors. These include the rising cost of health care in the US and the comparatively low cost of health care elsewhere, improved medical equipment and safety in foreign countries once thought to have “third world” or substandard conditions. Traveling to Mexico for medical procedures has become especially popular, due to Mexico’s proximity to the US, the rise in standards of care, and the “vacation” aspect of going to Mexico for medical reasons, paired with taking some down time after a “specialized” operation, such as hip replacement, cardiac, cosmetic, or other elective surgeries.

Traveling to Mexico for a medical procedure might be right for you if you’re in need of major treatment such as a knee replacement, are looking to save money, and want to take some leisure time as well. Some people are finding they just can’t get the level of care they need or want in the US, with increasing retrenchment of insurance companies unwilling to cover costly – though needed – operations. For people with little or no medical coverage medical tourism to Mexico provides an affordable alternative option to delaying required surgery.
