Allergies and Hay Fever
About 10 to 20 percent of people suffer from seasonal or year-round allergies due to dust, mold, ragweed, tree pollen, etc. When allergies affect the nasal passages, inflammation, congestion, and/or drainage may follow. This condition is commonly referred to as Allergic Rhinitis. Viral infections (i.e. colds) and airborne pollutants can also create a similar spectrum of nasal passage inflammation. If the drainage and congestion is left untreated, bacterial infection of the sinus cavities of the mid-face may ensue. (See href=“sinusitis.html”>Sinusitis) If you anticipate that your allergies could get worse during your trip to Mexico, we recommend that you consult with your primary care physician or allergist prior to departure. We also recommend that you choose lodging at higher-end facilities that are dusted and cleaned on a regular basis. If in the past you have experienced allergic reactions to fabrics, cleaning products, or feathers, bring your own linens and pillows.
