Use to prevent
- malaria:* Adult dosage is 500 mg (300 mg base) once a week. Take the first pill with food one week prior to departure and continue for four weeks after returning home.
Children’s use: 5 mg per kg body weight orally once per week. Max dose 300 mg/base per dose. 250 mg of chloroquine phosphate = 150 mg of chloroquine base.
Side effects and precautions: headache, nausea and/or vomiting, dizziness, itching, and blurred vision. Persons with psoriasis, G6PD deficiency, porphyria should consult with a doctor prior to use (see package insert for complete list of side effects and contraindications).
