I have to say, picking MedToGo International was probably the best move I could have ever made. From the first time I spoke to Robert Page, MedToGo Representative, I had a good feeling that these were professionals I was dealing with, later to find out they and team are much more. When I decided to go ahead with Hip Surgery in Puerto Vallarta it wasn’t simply all about money. It was about working with a team including Robert Page, Alfred Greig, and Dr. Max Greig.
In May of 2010 I had a hysterectomy and rectocele repair surgery at Hospital San Jose in Hermosillo, Mexico. I live on the Big Island of Hawaii, and being self-employed farmers, we had no medical insurance. The cost of such surgeries in Hawaii would have topped $60,000 dollars. (It cost me about 10% of that by going to Mexico) I looked for alternatives on the internet and discovered MedToGo in Tempe, Arizona. Their service appealed to me because it was run by doctors. They had researched the best hospitals in Mexico, and the best surgeons.
We had a very good experience, overall. Dr. Joya’s assistant, Nathalie was very friendly and helpful; her English was very good which made it easier for us to understand what to expect, etc. Dr. Joya was kind and did a fine job – I’ve had no problems whatsoever after the surgery, except for a sore arm from the IV. :) The other doctor (the internal medicine Dr.) was super friendly and made jokes, etc. He had a wonderful “bedside manner”, so the two of them made a good team.
I have been fighting a losing battle with weight my entire life. It has always been a struggle for me to lose weight and keep it off. My biggest success was a 30lb. weight loss with Weight Watchers back in 2003, but as life sometimes blows up, so does my weight.
We were very well cared for by Dr. Joya and his team in Puerto Vallarta when I needed inguinal hernia surgery. I was able to get a pre-operative checkup and cardiogram at the hospital the morning before the surgery. Everyone at the hospital was kind and helpful as they took care of all the necessary checkups and testing prior to the surgery.
My experience with MedToGo International was fantastic. I had my surgery in January of this year, 2010. I must admit, I was a little scared to go to another country to have surgery and a lot of people thought I was out of my mind. But I was in so much pain I felt I really had no choice. Since I did not have insurance, there was no way I could afford to get my surgery here in the states.
It’s been almost six months since my metabolic gastric bypass surgery, and I want to share my story with others. My journey started in June 2007 when I was first diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and High Cholesterol at age 25. I never really considered myself obese, but I was a bit over weight with a BMI of 33.5.
I was one of the ones who slipped through the system and couldn’t get insurance. Totally unable to walk, I had to ride in a scooter because the pain was so great. I went to 3 different doctors before finding out I needed hip surgery. Then the problems started. My insurance wouldn’t pay for any test or treatment that I needed, because it was pre-existing. I went through this for 3 years before someone asked me if I had considered Mexico and I started to research online.
Within 2.5 weeks of a diagnosis of ovarian teratoma I was scheduled for surgery at Hospital San Jose´, Hermosillo Mexico with both a Gynecological Surgeon and Oncologist awaiting my arrival.
I had my total hip replacement surgery with Dr. Greig in Puerto Vallarta and am extremely happy with the overall treatment, attention to detail and the end result. I am once again living pain free and didn’t have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to achieve this.
I had the Lap Band surgery September 4th, 2009 with MedToGo International in Tijuana. Initially I was a bit apprehensive to have surgery in Tijuana, given its reputation, but when I learned where the hospital was located I became comfortable. I lived in Mexico for a while, so I was actually excited to return.
Dr Greig is a very special Surgeon and I can’t recommend him enough! In fact I have recommended him to quite of few people! His entire staff is excellent and extremely caring. I can’t say enough good things about his team. People I don’t even know ask me where I’ve had the surgery and are quite surprised that I had it in Puerto Vallarta.
I was always concerned with being overweight. Since I had my last child, I gained and gained weight, and no diets or anything else worked for me. I decided to have the operation after my doctor informed me during a routine visit that I was pre-diabetic. I have a sister that suffers from diabetes and all the pills she must take daily, and I decided I didn’t want the same for myself. The gastric band is really helping me lose weight. Two sizes smaller and I feel very good, little by little I am improving.
I want to thank you for again providing me with first class medical care in Mexico. You may remember, my first operation was an inguinal hernia repair done in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and that went wonderfully, and I loved the city. If a hernia is a dangerous condition, my second health issue is frightening. I needed cataract surgery in my right eye as my vision was getting worse each month. I needed a third surgery in my left eye resulting from a detached retina that happened a year ago.
I wanted to mail you to let you know how much the Lap Band has changed my life. I came into your office weighing 198 to 200 pounds and that was in April 2009. I’m proud to say that today, 21st of March, I am now 155 pounds.
To the people at MedToGo International, they did an excellent job in arranging the medical trip to have my hiatal hernia repair. I cannot commend them enough for their thoroughness in making certain that my medical experience was to my satisfaction and bringing to a facilty with a surgeon who performed beyond anyone’s expectation. The prices were more than reasonable relative what is charged in the States. As a provider of medical services in the States I could not find any fault in their procedures.
My friends, I have been this fat for almost twenty years, and after many different diets and supplements I ended up in Dr. Bob Page’s office. We talked about my problem and he suggested that I look into the lap band as a procedure for lifetime weight loss. I took him up on it and even decided to have it done in Mexico (it seemed to be against my American principles to do that, but I did anyway).
As a wife of a patient I felt compelled to write you and “THANK YOU” for a job well done. When we learned Joe had completely destroyed his ACL and would require surgery I nearly lost it. We were told that the costs of the surgery to be performed in the US would be approx 25K to 40K I thought Joe was going to have to learn to live with the pain.
First of all let me say “Thank You” for my new left knee. I am recovering well and quickly. My experience at CIMA Hospital for the surgery on 6 January was wonderful. The nursing and support staff were very attentive to my needs.
On January 30, 2009, I traveled to Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico, where I underwent Lap band surgery, performed by Dr. Armando Joya. For this surgery I went through MedToGo International, which is run by Dr. Robert Page of Phoenix, Arizona.
I was terrified to say the least, but when I met Dr. Page he reassured me that Dr. Joya was a fantastic doctor and one of the best surgeons in his field.
We have joined the trend toward medical tourism at our house. It started after my husband and I moved to New Mexico and stopped having health insurance. Our first medical tourism experience was with hernia surgery. We knew surgery would eventually be necessary, but it wasn’t an emergency. There was some time to do research before any decisions needed to be made. The internet worked wonderfully well for discovering useful information from around the world.
My name is Frances Koonce and, thanks to MedToGo International, I have dropped 110 lbs. in 7 months. Like everyone else when you think about traveling abroad for a major surgery fear steps in.
I can’t tell you how pleased I am with my lap band experience in Mexico arranged through MedToGo International. Dr. Joya was wonderful and answered all of my questions. I traveled to Puerto Vallarta with my sister and took five days to relax and enjoy the Westin Spa following my surgery. Even with the vacation for two my expenses were about 1/2 of what I would have paid here in Atlanta, GA.
MedToGo International coordinated my Gastric Sleeve surgery November 3rd, 2008 with Dr. Joya in Puerto Vallarta. I had never heard of medical tourism and quickly learned what a great service they offered. They do all the legwork, interviewing surgeons and inspecting hospitals, from which I was able to select with which doctor and where I wanted to have my procedure.
Since the birth of my middle son, which was 22 years ago, I’ve been bothered by my gallbladder. I was hospitalized once for 8 days while the doctors got the inflation under control thru medication and diet. As the years passed by my gallbladder began to bother me more and more to the point that I couldn’t sleep on my right side and my activity level decreased until I was sedentary.
I want to thank you for the courteous and professional medical care I received in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico when I had my left inguinal hernia repaired in November of 2008. I was very much a VIP medical patient to everyone I encountered.
It has been seven weeks since i had my rotator cuff repair surgery..I have gained a lot of movement in my arm and am on a regimen of exercises…I have been able to finish a small leaded glass window working on commissions for a few hours at a time…I have very little pain and am healing quickly..and back to living in my treehouse in the redwoods above Santa Cruz.
As a Russian-born citizen who has been living in the US for 20 years, I know that the United States is not the only country with quality health care. So, when I was faced with the high cost for Gastric Sleeve surgery in the US, I decided to research my options to have it done outside of the country.
My name is Kathy and I had my lap band surgery on Sept. 19, 2008 through MedToGo in Tijuana, Mexico. When it was suggested that I go to Tijuana for my surgery, my husband was, to say the least very apprehensive.
I can happily recommend MedToGo to those patients who need bariatric surgery without reservation. My surgery and the subsequent hospitalization was of the utmost quality. I was pleased to see that the hospital uses state of the art equipment and the staff was excellent.
Major surgery can be a scary thing for anybody. Having chosen to live my life in a remote area and fish commercially, I, as well as many of my townsfolk, have left my/our selves hundreds of miles away from any medical attention more than stitches and the re-setting of broken bones. This only adds to the fear, anticipation and sense of uncertainty associated with any major surgery.
The best way for me to concisely convey my MedToGo experience is to relate how it was with my injury, what transpired using MedToGo as my Medical Travel Facilitator, and how it is today, back home, as I write these words:
I’d severely torn my right rotator cuff, as diagnosed by a local Orthopedic Surgeon, and the only option was surgical repair. The costs of having this done locally, meaning an hour and a half of hospital time, Orthopedic Surgeon, Anesthesologist, medications, etc. came to, at a minimum, $20,000.
Since I had no insurance, I began looking for alternatives to the $12,500.00 operation as quoted in the USA. I really was blessed when I found MedToGo. Bottom line, I spent less than 35% of the US price.
I had total knee replacement surgery performed by an orthopedic surgeon in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
June 2006 found me in Hermosillo, Mexico, having weight loss surgery. This is a procedure I had hoped to have in the U.S. but when I researched the possibility I found it was far too expensive. The cost in Mexico was one half of the fee in Arizona.
Last year, during a regular check-up, my family doctor determined that I needed a hysterectomy. Not having insurance, I researched having the procedure done in the U.S. and was overwhelmed by the cost. A friend recommended I contact MedToGo to have my surgery done in Mexico.
