Mini-Gastric Bypass
The Mini-Gastric Bypass (MGBP) which uses the loop reconstruction, has been suggested as an alternative to the Roux en-Y procedure, due to the simplicity of its construction, which reduced the challenge of laparoscopic surgery.
MGBP is a bariatric procedure that reduces the size of the stomach and bypasses a portion of the small intestine for the purpose of weight loss.
The procedure is promoted as a “minimally invasive, short, simple, successful and inexpensive laparoscopic gastric bypass weight loss surgery.”
As the name suggests, mini gastric bypass surgery is a simplified form of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RNY). A thorough review of the studies that specifically evaluated the effectiveness of MGBP shows that the procedure is shorter, easier, less expensive and has lower risk and equally successful outcomes as RNY.
